Righteous Among the Nations

On page 243 this blog was announced the recognition ceremony posthumously Henry Joseph and Mary as Righteous Degremont. They have in effect protected the Holocaust and Joseph Liba Goldsztajn and their son Henry.

- "We are gathered here tonight to honor the courage of this couple, who did not hesitate to threaten to hold, hide and save several Jewish families persecuted by the Nazis, including Joseph GOLDSZTAJN-Aron, his wife Liba and their son Henry.

Coming from Poland, Joseph Aron arrived in Paris in 1936. Joseph is a butcher by profession. He easily finds work and his wife and son Henry joined him in 1938. The family lives rue Julien Lacroix, in the 20th arrondissement, in a building adjacent to the butcher shop owned by it. Helen was born in early January 1940.

Engaged in September 1939 when a regiment of foreign volunteers, the father was demobilized in July l940 to Caussade, then sent to a camp Working in Marseille. With a certificate of employment provided by friends, he joined his family and managed to hide himself in Paris during the roundup of July 1942. That night, his wife saved his life and that of her children by taking the risk of not meeting the beating on the door by the Germans.

Helen Gutowski-Goldsztajn had wanted to make the trip from Argentina to show its appreciation to spouses Degremont, the ones who prevented the Holocaust to bring his parents and brother.
