After the deportation of my parents, who lived in a center for Jewish children and hid in different homes, I was taken by my cousin Joseph, the eldest of the siblings, under a false name to Chateau-Renault. I was placed in a senior nurse with whom I have obscured the name. It terrified me by slapping and threats. I was 9 years old, I suffered and I had difficulty communicating.

My sister Louise, came to this town after me, was maid of all work in good people, Mr and Mrs Proust who, having found my physical and mental thee warned. You came to fetch me immediately from the hag and you entrusted me to your sister and your brother, Mr. and Mrs. Saillard, one month before the Release. At home, I took courage and will to live.

Noëlle Wiedrich, Righteous Among the Nations (BCFYV / DR).

Nicolas Gorodiche Address:

- "Here we are, my sister and I Norge, happy to live in this beautiful country of France, surrounded by our 6 children and our 20 grandchildren. Not all are present here, some of them live outside France, but all know our history.
Because in this day of Spring 1943, our survival was far from assured: refugees in a small village of Briançon with our mother and her parents, searching for Jewish families intensified. Our father was in England with three brothers from mother to continue the fight against the Nazis. We had to leave quickly to avoid being stuck with the consequences we all know, helped by some friends, including Lisette Langlois-Berthelot, now Mrs. Devinat.

Mom had to urgently find a solution for us. She was able to contact a couple Alsatian who had joined the so-called free zone at the beginning of the war and settled in Arles, the city where we lived and where my father was a surgeon. He had also operated Camille Wiedrich shortly after his arrival in Arles.
When friends were exposed to Wiedrich our situation is without hesitation that Noelle and Camille have agreed to hide ourselves for some time, while being fully aware of the risks. To everyone, we were their grandchildren, and my sister has changed his name Norge too easily identifiable to that of Rose. She was 3 years old, I was 5, and we stayed 2 years.

Not only are our adopted grandparents have hidden, protected, educated, but beyond that, they gave us their unconditional love during these 2 years when our parents were not with us in this hostile environment where German soldiers and Gestapo were nearby, and everything could swing tragically.

And then, in spring 1945, a jeep stopped in front of the porch of the farmhouse where we lived: a tall man in battle dress with his stripes as commander came down and rushed to take us into his arms. And my sister told her with a Alsatian accent cut with a knife, "Ponjour baba!

norway and me but also all our descendants, Yad Vashem and thank all members who attended and supported our history to be made today this tribute to Christmas and Camille Wiedrich. Without them we would probably not there.
Our grandparents of the war remained to the end and we are very pleased and honored that Helene Paquet and his family are here today to receive this medal on behalf of the righteous. "

Granddaughter of the Righteous, Helene Paquet receive their diploma and medal from the hands of Laurent Mestre, Attaché, Embassy of Israel in Paris (DR).

Speech by Patrick Bloche, mayor of the 11th:

- "It is a source of great pride and deep emotion to welcome tonight at Town Hall in the 11th arrondissement, this ceremony Delivery of the Medal of the Righteous Among the Nations.
Tonight, again, is the history of our country as we look across the street.
Between 1940 and 1944, 76,000 Jews of French nationality or foreign, including 11,000 children, were deported from France. The result of this planned extermination of the Jews wanted this annihilation of all Jews is terrible: only 2,000 Jews deported from France among survive the hell of the camps.
A few steps away, the Japy gymnasium was one of the places where we gathered the children, women and men, before deportation, including for the most part, they never returned. Two plaques are now displayed on the facade of the building. They invite passersby to gather and remember a horror perpetuated with the complicity of the Vichy police, leading to deportation and murder of people by the mere fact that they were Jewish.

The tribute tonight Andrée Pasquier, Roland born, and posthumously to WIEDRICH Camille and his wife Anne, born GANTER called Noelle, is a tribute through time. He recalled that the time shall not erase: the atrocities as well as acts of bravery.
And we must always remember that in the margins of the collaborationist zeal and cold lethargy of the masses, there were brave who resisted. And for this, the honor is a duty. These women and men, young or older, had the courage to oppose, even though the spirit of the time encouraged them to do everything otherwise. They form these discrete battalions of people who, to borrow the words of Joseph Kessel, "could well stand alone", but made a very different choice: to listen to their conscience.
They then made gestures that fell to them, the obvious: they hid entertained, collected or fed and clothed those of Nazi barbarism, driven by blind hatred, wanted to exterminate all.
These simple but that posed the greatest dangers are exemplary acts of resistance which we must remember. Also the medal awarded tonight Is the expression a will: enroll in indelible ink the names of those women and men who by their actions, bought our humanity.
(...)
the heart of a time when many doubted the values they had inherited, the evidence of things that did not stop the righteous move us.
(...)
Reading rescues performed by Camille and Noelle WIEDRICH then those made by Andrée PASQUIER emphasize the point that there were common in all these acts of resistance.
For Camille and Noelle WIEDRICH for you and Andree PASQUIER there was no calculation, long hesitations to know what to do. You know the obvious respect for human rights and dignity of everyone.
is our collective responsibility to do that, more than ever, this evidence can not be obliterated. "

Tribute Monique Kahn, a delegate of the French Committee for Yad Vashem:

- "When the Nazi invasion, the Montauban, a leading figure of the resistance of the Tarn and Garonne, wife of heart and action, convinced Christian, was attached to social services of the Bishopric of Montauban. Upon the call of June 18, 1940 She chooses her camp, and the courage pegged to the body, she became one of the few women to lead underground organizations: it broadcast the first news of the Resistance (Combat, Christian Witness), participated actively in the implementation of the WALL (United Movements of Resistance), fabricated false documents, hid Allied airmen, housed a transmitter, carried explosives and assured the rescue of a number of Jews that the intensity of its shares makes incalculable.

When Monsignor Theas, Bishop of Montauban, moved and shocked by the roundup of the Vel d'Hiv in July 1942, joined actively in resistance, he handed him the text of his famous pastoral letter of protest with the mission of " the mimeograph emergency and send it to all the priests of the diocese . On its own initiative, wary of postal censorship, the young woman got on his bike and ran one hundred kilometers a day to give each ply in person. On 30 August 1942, the precious letter was read in all churches of the region and globally broadcast the day after broadcast on the BBC, the voice of Maurice Schumann, the show "The fra ISH talk to French .

Officer of the Legion of Honor, Marie-Rose was decorated GINESTE Medal of the Resistance, the Military Medal, the Croix de Guerre with Palms and the Cross of volunteer fighters, but the distinction she said she received with the most emotion was Medal of the Righteous, who had been assigned by the State of Israel in 1983.

What To Do When A Wart Bleeds

P. 264. The Righteous Crouy

.
Jacques and Micheline Katz, hidden children (DR: BCFYV).

Spouses and Germaine Gabriel Cuvillier
and their son John:
three Righteous Among the Nations Crouy

October 3, 200 joined the Multipurpose Hall of Crouy for a ceremony of recognition of the Righteous Among the Nations prepared and led by Alain Vivien Saul and Habif, representatives of the French Committee for Yad Vashem ..
Cuvillier Gabriel, his wife Germaine (nee Duhauvel) and their son Jean Cuvillier were honored posthumously for having hidden and saved from the Holocaust Jacques Katz and his sister Micheline.
The representative of the Israeli Embassy in Paris, Michel Harel, handed the medal and diploma from just grand-son and son of the three heroes for a day but not for ... forever.

Cuvillier Gabriel and his son John, Righteous Among the Nations (DR: BCFYV).

Summary File Yad Vashem:

- "Henry Katz and Rachel Wilensky, Russo-Polish origin, married in Paris. They operate a trade butter and cheese, 3 rue de la Tour d'Auvergne Crouy (Aisne). They had two children: Micheline, born in 1933 and Jacques, born in 1939.
At the outbreak of war, Henry was called up. He was taken prisoner near Sedan. Interned in Hamburg, he managed to give its news to his wife and his mother remained Crouy with two children.
early 1943, Rachel escapes arrest. She decides to go to Tergnier (Aisne), where the mother lives with her husband, Rosalie Katz. Micheline and Jacques are entrusted to their grandmother.
On 2 January 1944, Rachel was interned in the prison of Laon (Aisne). May 2 takes its transfer to Drancy. On 5 May, a convoy takes Rachel to Bergen-Belsen. But
January 19, 1944, at Crouy is the turn of Rosalie Katz and his grandchildren Micheline Jacques and fall into the hands of Germans. All three are pushed into a truck. Unbelievable but true, an officer turned to the witnesses and the arrest application:
"If someone wants to take care of these children, I do not take them!"

Germaine Cuvillier-Duhauvel, Righteous Among the Nations (DR: BCFYV).

- "Among the people attending Crouy this stage, a person has the presence of mind to warn Germaine Cuvillier. It was used by the Katz family before the war. She ran away. No questions question, she takes the kids home.
Germaine Cuvillier, her husband and their son Gabriel Jean hid and protected and Micheline Jacques until liberation.
Rachel is back from Bergen-Belsen in late April 1945 to find his children shining. Alas, Rosalie Katz died in deportation.
Rachel Jacques Micheline and never forgot their benefactors. "

Excerpts from speeches by the Mayor of Crouy:

From L. to Dr. Daniel Half, Mayor Crouy Viviane Saul and Alain Habif, Deputies Committee French for Yad Vashem (DR).

- " This ceremony is a tribute to the family CUVILLIER for a courageous act that allows two children to escape deportation ago aged 66. Nothing is forgotten, Time has not erased, nor the Nazi barbarism and the complicity of the French state, nor the resistance to the occupier, or acts of generosity and discrete like family CUVILLIER. What the fact Mr. and Mrs. CUVILLIER for these two children is exceptional ...
When, January 19, 1944, Micheline Jacques and their grandmother Rosalie stopped, it knows what to expect. At that time, everyone knows that the arrest is followed by deportation, without return. What we know is the method used to make you die. That is why the grandmother Rosalie wants to throw it out the window of the 1st floor and is Micheline which will prevent him. Rather kill himself than be arrested, Rosalie will not return.
is terrible and the fear of arrest is present among many Jews in the year 1944.
Madam Germaine CUVILLIER is maid in KATZ, among Leveque, the tobacconist, and in Nouvian, the butcher, do not ask questions. When she is prevented, she finds a way to travel to collect and Micheline Jacques to be treated like his own children. It's simple and obvious to the couple Cuvillier, but this gesture is not without danger, to thank you for an information. And the German soldiers are likely to CROUY. They occupy houses requisitioned - 14, I said Jacques KATZ ...
Madam CUVILLIER visiting TERGNIER to collect and Micheline Jacques waiting on the sidewalk, anxious and whose only hope is to see it happen. Ms. CUVILLIER knows all this. Never mind the supply problems with the ration card, no matter the risk of being denounced, Madam CUVILLIER does what she considers her duty. This is normal. And Marshall may well leave his anti-Semitic laws, the Germans and the militia to arrest. That is abnormal.
Today, the Medal of the Righteous will be given, posthumously, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. CUVILLIER. It is a great honor and I'm happy, as Mayor of CROUY, share this honor, which reflects on all Crouyssiens.
We are proud to have done Mr and Mrs CUVILLIER for children KATZ.
I thank Mr. and Mrs. SAUL Habif, delegates of the French Committee for Yad Vashem who orchestrated the ceremony.
I also thank His Excellency Michel HAREL representing the Israeli Embassy in France whose presence honors our village. "

Speech by Jean Francois Cuvillier:

-" I am very touched receive the Medal of the Righteous Among the Nations testifying to the act of humanity of my grandparents and Germaine Gabriel Cuvillier and my father John.
As my mother testified:
"They were simple people, true, wonderful kindness and generosity."
They have hidden, protected, lavished much love to Jacques and Micheline, considering them as their children.
This day pays tribute to them.
On behalf of Mom, my brothers and sisters, I am proud to bear witness to this memory humanity.
Whatever our differences, every man, woman's place and should be respected as such. Anything that goes against it is an affront to the dignity of human beings.
May this ceremony be a witness to the power of life. "

to Dr. G. De Viviane Saul, delegate of the French Committee for Yad Vashem; Michel Harel, representing the Embassy of Israel, Jean Francois Cuvillier receiving the diploma and medal of her grandparents and her father (DR).
